This type of quilting is out of my comfort zone, but, I am am more open to it now that I have seen these beautiful quilts!!!!!

My first quilt could be considered an improv …..

  3. Mary Lou Carr (6 months ago)

I’ve been quilting for two years and love new and challenging patterns. I need to stretch my imagination.

I like to sew my scraps together in various shapes and sizes and then when they get big enough, cut them into 6 1/2″ blocks. I will eventually sew those together into a throw, so I guess that would be considered “improv”! I love those scrap quilts!

I’ve done some strip quilting and would like to take improv to a different level and try something more challenging!

Love the strip quilting…think the improv idea would be great for kids to start
their first quilting project on…Random colors…Keep those ideas coming…Thanks.

      Hi Sandra,

Great idea – Quilt Improv for Kids! Have you seen the blog hop post at FreshlyPieced? She has her 4 year old son helping to make his first quilt and really enjoying it.

Love the concept of improv quilting. Maybe I could (finally) let go of at least a little bit of my tendency to try to get every seam just perfect, every time. Would love to have this book.

Love your X blocks! Would love to try them, they would make a great quilt.

Love the option to use up scraps — they seem to just multiply like bunnies! How fun that they would serve a pretty purpose.

I haven’t tried an improv quilt yet, but I think they are stunning!
